The national mid-term elections on November 2, 2010, changed the political landscape. The U.S. House of Representatives is now controlled by the Republican Party, and the Texas Legislature now has the largest Republican majority in 140 years. Anticipated federal anti-bullying legislation will most likely be proposed by Democrats, who are expected to insist on LGBT-inclusion.

Alley Theatre Announces First Class of Fitzpatrick Interns. Four recent college graduates joined the Alley Theatre staff in December as the first members of the Alley Theatre’s Fitzpatrick Internship program. The program was created as a tribute to Bettye Fitzpatrick, who has been integral to the success of the Alley during more than 50 years as a stage manager, production manager, director of interns, and actor before her retirement in 2009.

Beyond the Music. Texas-based rocker Patrice Pike created the Grace Foundation of Texas to provide healthcare, education, and career training to homeless youth once they “age out” of the traditional support systems. This month, musicians Kristine Mills and Long Dive, as well as visual artist Roland Diaz, join Pike for the group’s second annual awareness and fundraising gala.
