Texans Living with HIV and Other Stakeholders to Meet with State Health Officials

As the Texas Senate and House of Representatives continue try and balance the state two year budget by making financial cuts, tightening eligibility and reducing benefits to state programs, the Texas HIV community will meet at the Texas Department of State Health Services to discuss potential changes to the Texas HIV Medication Program.

IRS Formally Recognizes New Houston BARC Foundation as 501(c)(3); Inaugural Event to be Held on April 1, 2011

The Houston BARC Foundation (HBF) recently received approval from the Internal Revenue Service to operate as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The formal establishment of the Houston BARC Foundation represents the culmination of a year of planning and preparation, and marks a “game changing” moment in the future history of Houston’s approach to the care for, and ultimate prevention of, homeless animals.

Megachurch wants choir to sign anti-gay covenant

The “Crystal Cathedral Worship Choir and Worship Team Covenant” recently handed out to members states that they should commit to being Christians by following the Bible in every way, the Orange County Register reported Tuesday. Former and current choir members say they are particularly offended by a statement in the document that refers to homosexuality. Long-time church members say this is the first time they have seen the cathedral take a firm stand against homosexuality and are disturbed by it.

Houston GLBT Community Center Offers Recover Workshops in April

A life coach with 35 years of experience in recovery training and education will launch a five-week series of workshops at the Houston GLBT Community Center (1900 Kane) beginning on Monday, April 4. The life coach, Karlos Albañil, will offer the workshops on five consecutive Monday evenings through May 2. There is no charge to participate in the workshops.
