* Kiss of the Spider WomanKiss of the Spider Woman

Victorious Venom Manuel Puig’s novel, Kiss of the Spider Woman, lauded for its homoerotic tenderness balanced against the harshness of its prison setting, stunned and inspired audiences when it was adapted as a stage play in the early 1980s. At that time, AIDS was a developing threat, and interpretation of a sympathetic gay character was an iffy proposition. Nonetheless, the play soon became a much-lauded feature film, and was eventually adapted into a Tony-winning musical.
