Letters: Reader Responds to Susan Bankston’s Column

If you demand free contraception, what’s to keep you from demanding shoes and food and hats? Should they not be supplied to ensure “women’s health”?

While most of us agree that Governor Rick Perry has done some good things for Texas, it appears that recently he has crossed over and is confusing his role as a good state leader with that of a judging Christian.

I find myself loving Blase DiStefano [OutSmart entertainment editor] more with each interview, and I enjoy living vicariously through him.

Republicans, the next white meat

I’m not impressed with the ill thought out solutions that the fundamentalist Christians and Republicans keep offering. But the one thing I do know is that the planet is only capable of maintaining something like 4 or maybe 5 billion people, and I think we are up to 6 billion and growing.

Letters…On Wayne Besen’s Feb article, “The Bombast and Body Count”

It is distressing to read Wayne Besen’s comments in his Feb article, “The Bombast and Body Count.” Wayne totally ignores the anger and hatred exhibited by Progressive Leftists toward Bush 43, Palin and McCain. They were hung in effigy in 2008 from an apartment complex in California and we heard no complaint from Obama. Leftists like Bill Maher and Michael Moore can say or produce what they wish about conservatives without consequence. Books were written on how to assassinate Bush and no comment from the Left.

Thanks so much for mentioning our new program, Project Empower, being held at the GLBT Center. On our first night, we had six “students” and we learned many things related to wellness, diet, cardio, stress reduction, and core strengthening.

Letter to Editor-Disturbed by Obama Domestic Agenda

He promised no tax increases–not one dime–for 95% of Americans. Yet, in 2011, every American will be hit by a torrent of tax increases that we have never seen in our lives.

I was the winner of OutSmart’s 2010 Austin Pride sweepstakes. The prize included two nights at the Austin Radisson on Town Lake and VIP tickets to Austin Pride celebrations, including two tickets to see comedian Mario Cantone. Austin Pride was an amazing festival…

Procedures, Police, and a Parade

So, on that Saturday night in June, we hopped on our bikes and pedaled over to Stanford St. We met our neighbors, a diverse bunch of single and married couples, some with children and others not. The parade began, and we cheered as Mayor Bill White marched past us on Westheimer, heading east to a crowd estimated by the Houston Chronicle to number 80,000. My wife Kirste was busy snapping photos with her iPhone, but she soon discovered that headlights on the floats caused glare, and her pictures looked better if she faced away towards the east.
And then it happened — a tragedy that should never befall another person enjoying a parade in Houston.
