Newlywed Marie Allen (Eleanor Parker) is sent to a women’s prison after a robbery attempt that left her husband dead, only to find that she is two months pregnant. Once there, she has to deal with reform-minded warden Ruth Benton (Agnes Moorehead, who was gay, but closeted, in real life) and sadistic matron Evelyn Harper (Hope Emerson) in her quest for the truth. Not surprisingly, there are plenty of Sapphic references in this 1950 film.
