Archaeology Now presents “Black Pharaohs: Egypt, Nubia, and Cultural Merging”
Thursday, April 25, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
$20Often our identity is comprised of many factors and many influences. Identity in the world of ancient Egypt is no exception.
During Egypt’s 25th Dynasty, Nubian kings occupied the pharaonic throne and built a great empire stretching from central Africa to the Mediterranean. Ever adaptable, these ancient Nubians not only innovated but also merged aspects of Egyptian and other African cultures into their own – while influencing the development of Egyptian civilization. New scholarship has shown how the Nubians, ignored and discounted for centuries, were remarkable trailblazers.
Next Thursday, April 25th, Archaeology Now will present the last lecture of its 2018-2019 season, “Black Pharaohs: Egypt, Nubia, and Cultural Merging” at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Peter Lacovera, Ph.D., the director of the Ancient Egypt Heritage and Archaeology Fund, will present this fascinating topic.
