About Michael Klein
Michael Klein has published on a variety of topics in Music Theory Spectrum, Nineteenth-Century Music, the Journal of Music Theory, the Journal of the American Liszt Society, Indiana Theory Review and in various collections of essays. He is the author of “Intertextuality in Western Art Music” and co-editor (with Nicholas Reyland) of a collection of essays titled “Music and Narrative since 1900.” His latest book, “Music and the Crises of the Modern Subject” concerns Lacan’s theory of subjectivity and its implications for music. All three titles are published by Indiana University Press. In 2005, he received a publication award from the Society for Music Theory for his article “Chopin’s 4th Ballade as Musical Narrative” in Music Theory Spectrum. He is currently writing a book on narrative in the music of Chopin, tentatively titled “Etudes: The Narrator in Chopin’s Music.”
