The sky is the limit when it comes to the artists at METdance.

The nonprofit’s next performance “When We Take Flight,” which showcase the great heights its dancers achieve on stage, featuring works by award-winning NYC-based Kyle Abraham, Bridget L. Moore and Sean Carmon, as well as a world premiere by Princess Grace Awardee Joshua Manculich.

Three evenings outstanding contemporary dance are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov.17 at Midtown Arts and Theatre Complex Houston (MATCH), 3400 S Main St. Tickets are $20 per person on Thursday and $18-$25 on Friday and Saturday.

“When We Take Flight” is the second show of METdance’s 23rd season, entitled “Better Together,” which celebrates how working as a team can lead to phenomenal outcomes.

“We’re exploring the infinite possibilities that dance can express,” the company’s artistic director Marlana Doyle said. “This performance promises to be breathtaking and inspiring.”

“When We Take Flight,” the title piece by Kyle Abraham, was choreographed for AIDS’ Fire Island Dance Festival in 2013 and inspired by Ryan Lott’s musical score.

Abraham has described his quality of movement as a “post-modern gumbo” that is inspired by all types of dance forms, ranging from modern to hip hop to social dance, as well as visual art, music and his collaborators.

An award-winning choreographer, Abraham will be restaging his work for the first time with a professional company in Texas. His numerous accolades include the 2018 Princess Grace Statue Award, 2017-18 Joyce Creative Residency Artist, 2016 Doris Duke Recipient, 2015 City Center Choreographer in Residence, and 2013 MacArthur Fellow.

He has also been honored as New York Live Arts Resident, Commissioned Artist for 2012–2014, the 2012 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award recipient and 2012 USA Ford Fellow, before serving as a choreographic contributor for Beyonce’s 2013 British Vogue cover shoot.
