The OutSmart Foundation for LGBTQ News and Media is a nonprofit public charity dedicated to preserving and strengthening community journalism in Houston. Our mission is to sustain OutSmart’s newsroom, support its journalists and internship programs, and fund multimedia projects that tell the stories of Houston’s LGBTQ community.

For over 31 years, OutSmart Media has been a trusted voice for Houston’s LGBTQ community, documenting our struggles, progress, and triumphs. However, the shifting media landscape—especially the sharp decline in traditional advertising revenue—has created serious challenges for independent, community-focused outlets like ours. Without additional support, the vital stories that connect, inform, and inspire our community risk going untold.
